We’re back at the Rate as the White Sox welcome the Detroit Tigers to Guaranteed Rate Field for a weekend series, following a tough and discouraging Thursday for South Siders — full coverage of that is available on South Side Sox.

The Tigers arrive with a 60-74 record, sitting third in the underwhelming AL Central. Taking the mound for Detroit will be Eduardo Rodriguez, who enters the game with a 9-7 record and a solid 3.21 ERA.

Noteworthy lineup news: Tonight marks Miguel Cabrera’s final appearance at Guaranteed Rate Field before his upcoming retirement, making this a memorable stop in his farewell tour.

For the White Sox, Touki Toussaint gets the start. He holds a 2-6 record and a 4.85 ERA — hovering closer to five than four. Korey Lee will be behind the plate tonight, giving Yasmani Grandal another day of rest.

Lineup update for Chicago on Rock ’n’ Roll Night:
As of this year, September call-ups are limited to just two extra roster spots. The Sox have used them to promote infielder José Rodríguez from Double-A Birmingham and right-hander Luis Patiño, recently acquired from Tampa Bay, from Triple-A Charlotte.

Patiño could be in line for action soon — possibly as early as next week. As for Rodríguez (nicknamed “Popeye”), there’s hope he’ll get more opportunities than just pinch-running or coffee duty for the veterans.

You can catch tonight’s game at 7:10 p.m. CT on NBC Sports Chicago or tune into the radio call on ESPN 1000.
